The Chicago Blackhawks won the NHL draft lottery  Monday night and earned the right to draft the phenomenal Connor Bedard.

The Blackhawks were last drafted No. 1 in 2007 when they drafted forward Patrick Kane. Chicago had the third-best chance of winning the first overall with 11.5%.

Chicago has been fully committed to rebuilding this season, which included a trade that sent Kane to the New York Rangers and parted ways with free agent captain Jonathan Toews.

This rebuild was greatly accelerated by the opportunity to recruit Bedard, a  17-year-old Canadian youth considered by many to be a generational talent.

"To be honest, I'm a little speechless, but I'm really, really excited," said Kyle Davidson, general manager of the Blackhawks.

"Any time you can add elite talent like we can add this draft with the first overall pick, it's monumental.

Real Madrid has lost two of their last three games and is practically eliminated from La Liga, 14 points behind leaders Barcelona.
