According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles have hired former Detroit Lions head coach and New England Patriots assistant Matt Patricia as their primary defensive assistant.
Manager Nick Sirianni told a press conference on Thursday that it was "in fashion" to sign Patricia.
“Sure, your CV speaks for itself. There is a great spirit that has reached the highest level," Sirianni said."
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick approached Patricia, the team's defensive coordinator, in 2012 at 17 as an offensive quarterback after longtime coordinator
Josh McDaniels larboard to become head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. It was an unconventional choice given Patricia's basic NFL defense experience.
Patricia, 48, was also tasked with implementing a new plan of attack over which Belichick appeared to have had significant influence.
However, the desired results never materialized when Belichick Patriots' Season 8-9: "It wasn't what we wanted or didn't want."
