Halle Bailey and Jodi Benson had a sweet moment at the world premiere of The Little Mermaid in Hollywood on Monday night.
The actresses who played Ariel stood on the blue carpet and kissed. They even posed for a photo together.
Bailey plays Ariel in the upcoming movie The Little Mermaid, which hits theaters later this month.
Halle Bailey, Jodi Benson share sweet moment
Benson voiced Ariel in the 1989 animated Disney original, which won two Academy Awards for Best Original Song and Best Original Score.
Bailey makes history by becoming the first black actress to play Ariel. The singer, one half of Chloe X Halle's vocal group, was cast in the role in July 2019.
Bailey told 'Good Morning America' on the blue carpet that she hopes her role as Ariel would introduce herself to her favorite princesses, to know that they "deserve to be in these rooms".
"I hope they see me on the screen," she said. "I'm just grateful to be here. Before me there were women like Brandy and Anika [Noni] Rose who were really role models for me to be here today.
So I use this moment until the end. I'm so excited. Directed by Rob Marshall, the film also stars Javier Bardem as King Triton,
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
