"I said something stupid. It was a bad thing," Perry said at the festival, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"I mentioned his name because I live on the same street. I publicly apologized to him. No future versions of the book will include his name."

While not personally apologizing to Reeves, Perry told festival-goers, "If I meet this guy, I'm sorry. It was just stupid.

In his memoir, Perry hit the 58-year-old Reeves in a passage about the untimely deaths of actors like River Phoenix, who died of a drug overdose in 1993.

“The list of geniuses ahead of their time is too long to detail here suffice it to say that River Phoenix, my co-star in Jimmy Reardon's One Night in the Life,

topped this one list should be," he wrote to Perry in his memoir, which was then reported by Variety.

"It always seems like it's the really talented guys that come down," Perry continued. "Why do original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die when Keanu Reeves is still with us?

He later mentioned Reeves a second time when discussing the death of another former colleague, Chris Farley.

Farley, with whom Perry co-starred in Almost Heroes, died of an accidental drug overdose in 1997.
